The graph below gives information about the percentage of the population in four Asian countries living in cities from 1970 to 2020, with prediction for 2030 and 2040.
The line chart depicts the urban residency percentages in four distinct countries: the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia, covering the time frame from 1970 to 2020, with projection rate of each country durning 2030 and 2040.
Overall, it is readily apparent that living in urban areas will increase in each nation, particularly Malaysia and the Philippines. By the end of the period, the percentage of the population in Malaysia will reach the highest rate at the end of the period, while Thailand will be the lowest one.
Looking at the graph more closely, an upward trend in the Malaysia’s line was observed between 1970 and 2020, with 30%(nearly a third) and 75%(around third-quarters), respectively. Also, the number of population will still rise steadily as its prediction. For Thailand, the initial rate was under a fifth in 1970, and it grew slowly to almost 30% in 2020. Although the prediction of Thailand’s population will experience/witness a considerable upward trend between 2030 to 2040, it will rank the fourth position at the end.
Indonesia’s population was the lowest number (about 15%) in 1970; however, it had a surge during 1970 and 2020, even surpassed/outnumbered the rate of Philippines in 2010. The prediction of population in Indonesia will peak at around 60%, which will take the second place in 2040.
