Some people claim that immigrants should adopt the local culture when immigrating to a new country. While others think that they can establish a minority community instead.
Discuss both views and give your opinion.
More people prefer to immigrate to other country due to economic, political, or cultural aspects. While some people contend that they should build a minority community, others argue that embracing different culture is more recommended. This essay will discuss both viewpoints and argue in favor of the latter.
On the one hand, immigrants in an unfamiliar country somehow are affected mentally and physically. It is undeniable that a hidden language barrier is constructed when speaking a non-native language with native speakers sometimes. Native speakers may use idioms or local words that it is difficult for foreigners to understand immediately. For instance, elevator and lift have the same meaning; however, in the UK, it is more common to use lift instead of elevator. Moreover, when staying in a foreign nation, some individuals may not adept into local foods or cultures, which may lead to homesickness or depressing moods. Thus, it is common that there are numerous China towns worldwide, providing Asian cuisine and Chinese supermarkets can be observed.
On the other hand, experiencing different culture can enrich one’s life. If someone makes the right decision to immigrate to another country, it is possible that somebody is inclined to immerse himself or herself in diverse cultures and backgrounds. Studies have shown that those who are willing to accept the local culture in a new country tend to have more enjoyable and happier lives, which can encourage them to have more exceptional ideas and contribute to the workplaces. Furthermore, interacting with locals definitely broaden our horizons. For instance, having an exotic Christmas’s party in different country with local people is an unforgettable memory.
In my opinion, embracing local culture has brought plenty of benefits. These valuable memories will keep forever when tasting local foods or even exchange cultures with foreigners.
In conclusion, although living in an unfamiliar place sometimes leads to homesickness, immigrating to another nation is a very rare chance and it should be cherished. Thus, adopting the local culture is more recommended due to enriching one’s life.
