Academic degree is one of the most common criteria measuring one’s ability or credit, so undoubtedly everyone has the right to pursue the higher educational degree. Some people argue that the government should provide all subsidy on one’s university fee. However, I do not support this viewpoint and I will provide two compelling reasons in the essay.

It is unfair to allocate the enormous expenditure on covering university fees for everyone by the government. The academic institutes should create a norm to evaluate each student’s academic performance and extracurricular activities. Instead of abolishing the tuition, the university should provide scholarships for those who perform academically well or has an extraordinary working experience. With this scholarship awarding system, students would be encouraged to strive for funds to complete their degrees. For instance, various universities in the UK provide plenty of funds for higher GPA applicants, which attract tens of thousands of students worldwide to study. Furthermore, numerous private and governmental institutes, including prestigious programs like the Chevening Scholarship, provide financial assistance to students facing economic hardships.

Without funds, the quality of education might decline. Tuition fees are allocated to various aspects, including research, academic journals, facilities, and professors, which are essential factors to achieve a higher position in QS rankings. Consequently, the university without enough funds might not be appealing for students due to its lower rank or quality. Administrative staff are crucial because they not only recruit new students but maintain the amenities, such as the library, swimming pool or playground. Moreover, these funds could reward those who are hard-working, stimulating students study PhD degrees or researching exceptional projects.

In conclusion, the funds should be allocated for scholarship rather than providing for all people. Investments in the quality of university deserve attention since it is undeniable that the evaluation QS rankings entails different aspects. Education is crucial; however, this does not equivalent that the higher academic degree should be entirely no charge for students.
