A lot of places in the world rely on tourism as a main source of income. Unfortunately, tourism can also be a source of problems if it is not managed correctly.

Describe the advantages and disadvantages of tourism in the modern world. Do you think that benefits of tourism outweigh its drawbacks?

Traveling has recovered and become more popular after three years of severe pandemic or coronavirus. Some people assert tourism can have adverse impact on the environment. However, I do not agree with this and I will illustrate several compelling reasons for supporting the benefits of tourism outweigh its drawbacks.

Tourism boosts the economy. In many countries, it is evident that tourism indeed brings tens of thousands of visitors annually and the governments make profits from it. Human resources are essential key factors for the tourism, such as the waiters in the restaurants, the cleaners in the hotels and the ground crew in the airports. With such substantial demands, local companies can offer more higher salary for their employees. Moreover, tourists from wealthy countries can purchase more products which can help local people earn extra money.

Furthermore, traveling abroad not only opens our horizon but gives us more concerns on historical sites. First, experiencing local culture or customs is an amazing and unforgettable memory when flying to another country. For example, drinking beers with fired chicken is a popular trend in Korea when hanging out with friends. Second, lots of historical tourist attractions are preserved well because of money flow from tourists.

However, it is undeniable that more and more tourists cause earth-shattering consequences. Some people throw away plastic waste or trash to the mountains. Recently, a lot of visitors came to Mountain Fuji and left bunch of junks, which had negative impacts on the environment. Simultaneously, excessive visitors make the area crowded and noisy and affect local transportation. Governments should take measures to address the issues and regulate laws to protect the environment. In my opinion, these difficulties can be overcome with appropriate policy or laws, so they are not huge problems.

In conclusion, tourism can boost a country’s economy with job opportunities, product-selling. It also provides several benefits like opening one’s horizon and putting more emphasis on historical sites. Nevertheless, authorities should take actions to prevent the environment from vicious tourists’ destruction. It can benefit people and reduce the effect of its drawbacks by appropriate measures and I believe that the pros outweigh the cons.
